RouteMaper used in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates

November 6, 2009

The RouteMapper team was commissioned by the Al Ain municipality  to conduct a comprehensive 200km survey of their main transportation corridor. Al Ain is becoming a busy city with commercial and tourist traffic increasing annually, this increase will place greater demands on existing and future transportation infrastructure.

The larger project aims to address the transportation efficiencies through these corridors, covering their physical characteristics, traffic circulation and management, public transportation and urban planning. This study will provide a comprehensive solution for transportation. Critical issues and the functional improvements will be identified as the work involves a multi-disciplinary approach including, travel demand forecasting, simulation modelling, traffic circulation and parking, ITS applications and Geometric design.

RouteMapper will primarily be used to identify and locate traffic and transportation signage, ITS and communications equipment on the Roadside. This will allow the engineers and designers the ability to visualize the current network, and to plan future equipment location. The software tools allow the user to take measurements, record features and faults, and overlay engineering data to fully record the current status of the roads throughout the corridors.
